How To Get The Right Backpack For Your Toddler

Backpacks with wide, padded, and adjustable straps are better than narrower strap for safety and convenience. Narrow straps can cause problems with nerves and can interfere with circulation. Have your youngster watch for and report sensations of weakness, numbness, or tingling, as these can be symptoms of serious problems. Adjust the straps so that the pack rests just below the shoulders and its bottom reaches the childs hips. Packs with hip straps are preferable, especially if your child needs to carry heavier loads.

Many toddler backpacks feature a side compartment with a water bottle. This is a great addition, however, be sure that a standard size water bottle or sip cup will fit in the compartment in case the original bottle is every lost. Also, be sure your child can easily remove the water bottle when they are thirsty. Pockets are an important factor to consider when choosing a toddler backpack. An outer pocket that will hold crayons or other small items is very convenient. An inner pocket for change or an attached change purse is also a nice feature. With a separate spot for coins children will always know where to find them for a trip to the ice cream truck or a vending machine.

A new trend in backpacks for kids is wheels and a handle. These types of backpacks feature a retractable handle that can be released to pull a too-heavy backpack on built-in wheels. If your child has many items to carry on a regular basis, this can be a nice addition to a backpack. Also, make sure that the backpack is easy to clean. It needs to be lined so you can just wipe out the inside. Backpacks with fabric outer layer can get dirty easily, and often becomes wet and waterlogged.
